Out Ethos and Principles

APPROACH
A structured, guided and enjoyable approach to learning, with a focus on respect, discipline, responsibility AND creativity.

VALUE
Instilling and understanding what " value" is to a project.
  • The value of learning,
  • The value of the teacher's own skill and the investment they have put into becoming teachers.
  • Understanding monetary and non-monetary value, by paying in kind for learning.
  • The value of the environment needed to foster effective learning

STAFF DEVELOPMENT
We believe that the quality, benefit and impact of our project provision can only be as good as the ability and quality of our coaches, youth workers and educators.  We seek to employ them under fair, transparent conditions and provide effective training and progression for them where necessary.

TRAINING
Our coaches, youth workers and educators must all undertake relevant components of the Future Champions RDR Training to ensure their interventions with different types of youth are compassionate, structured and beneficial to the children involved.
Youngsters wishing to become coaches or trainers are also offered similar training via our Young Leaders Programme.

QUALITY
We deliver projects to the highest standard, working with the most capable coaches and training members and staff who wish to achieve that standard,

GOVERNANCE
We adhere to all government guidelines regarding health & safety, risk assessment, child protection, vulnerable adults and equal opportunities, We constantly monitor government directives to ensure we are up to date.

GENERAL APPROACH
We use fully trained, skilled and capable coaches, educators, youth workers and community partners  to engage young people in sports, arts and community engagement  and equip them with the discipline, respect, responsibility and knowledge necessary to move forward with integrity.

We are committed to providing a level playing field where access to a variety of educational, sporting and cultural opportunities is the norm and individuals are able to make their own pertinent choices about their future without economic, social and cultural issues being a barrier to progression.

We are committed to being a visible presence in local, national and international policy issues where our experience, findings and proposals are of relevance and have benefit.
We will be getting involved in local and national debate over our inaugural year, as well as publishing and presenting the findings of our pilot projects.

HISTORY

The Future Champions Project in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is a sister project which we are closely linked with.  The project in Rio was borne of the idea to get kids from the Favelas into education, into healthy living, interacting with the community and understanding how to defend themselves effectively without resorting to violence.

FUTURE CHAMPIONS UK

We live in an increasingly violent society.  Many children find it difficult to escape that violence because they lack the physical skills, confidence and discipline to defend themselves effectively or they live in a hostile or marginalised environment which denies them access to those skills.

The Future Champions Project in Rio already has an effective track record of turning these facts on their head and  equiping children with the life skills necessary for them to make responsible choices about their futures.

We are proud at "Future Champions UK" to be replicating this excellent work in London at a time when academics and professionals are trying to remedy the increase in violence perpretated by children against children.  We at Future Champions are confident of the skills and values that we will instill through our programmes run in Schools and Youth Clubs across London.

Felipe Alves de Souza is the Founder of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu School in London and  BJJ Champion in his own right.  He has extensive experience in teaching youngsters in London and Rio and was heavily involved in Future Champions, Rio.  He is a Trustee of Future Champions UK.
